Can we have an India-Pakistan 5 ODI series, starting in the middle of April? I'll pay to watch, if I manage to sell my subscription to willow.tv on E-bay.

9:06 am - Tendulkar
Q. Why did Tendulkar fail in the third test?
A. Because he scored only 34/100.

This is from the dude who perpetrated the mother of all etymological one-liners - In World Cup 2003, Sri Lanka serendipitously entered the Super Six stage.

Now, this is worrisome. This is the 3rd major earthquake in our vicinity this week. Will we have a Playboy pictorial of the girls of Arizona coast soon?

10:15 am - Clueless
Eons ago, in a place far far away, I set my first and only crossword clue so far.

Reduce iron (8 letters)

[info]kvk and [info]mujib promptly mentioned that it was inscrutable and sadistic. And rightly so. Yesterday, a friend, a fellow mallu, cracked it- the first one to do so. I feel vindicated...

10:17 am - Oldboy...
..., the Korean flick, is the sickest movie I've ever seen. Period. It makes Se7en and Kiss of a Spiderwoman look like Kindergarten picnics. It won something or the other at Cannes. I'm too traumatized to write a review. Please check it out at your own risk.

2:32 pm - Oscars
Last night, I walked up to a prostitute and asked, “How much?”

She said, “For 300 bucks, I’ll do anything you want.”

“300 bucks? Paint my house, bitch”

- From a Chris Rock stand-up routine from the 80s.

Chris Rock is the reason I am watching the Oscars tomorrow. I hope “Before Sunset” wins the best adapted screenplay award.

We’ve discovered that the good SoCal weather is no hoax. I went skiing on Saturday, and played Frisbee with the woyf at the beach on Sunday, while listening to bagpipers usher in the sunset.

Sadly, I can't tell this to my friends in frozen NY.

12:57 pm - Yuva
I may be living in a cultural outpost and all, but I finally got to watch Yuva. It is the movie inspired by Godfather, right? The gangster’s wife getting an abortion was so from Godfather. No? Wait, wait! Yuva was inspired by the pretentious “Hazaar Chaurassi ki maa” – the rich Bong revolutionary and his mom thing was so from it. What, I am wrong again? OK, OK, so Yuva had to be inspired by Pulp Fiction, right? Parallel story lines meeting at a point and all that. No? Wrong again? What? Yuva is loosely based on Amores Perros now? What shit? How? Why? Where? What is wrong with all these other movies? A tad too mainstream or a bit too close to home, eh?

And yeah, I didn’t like the music either.I know it is a sacrilege and all, but there is not a single tune that stuck to my head. The fact that we don’t get bombarded by too much film music in Noo Joisey doesn't help things. I so need a new “Nila Kaigirathu” or “Pachai kiligal” from the maestro.

Have to say this :- the saving grace of the movie was Abhishek. Undoubtedly the best gangster I have seen in a Hindi flick .

5:17 pm - Factual post in linear time
My mother visited me for two months last summer. She made some really awesome food – including the the best ada payasam I ever had. She made that for the guests at my cousin's wedding. She met Aparna there. The wedding ceremony was a blend of 'east and west' ;). Contrary to expectations, neither I nor [info]rahulms got wasted.

Couple of months later, Aparna moved into my place with her knickknacks and dreams in tow. We drove from Dallas to Noo Joisey - a small matter of 1700 miles and 13 states - in two days. We thought we had a flat in Louisiana. A mechanic unmounted our tire and pulled out a three inch nail. He refused to charge us, as the nail had not gone in all the way to create a puncture. Speak of southern hospitality! During the trip, we witnessed a complete lunar eclipse from beginning to end. It took fifteen minutes for us to figure out that the moon wasn't changing faces, as Calvin might have put it. I listened to 'America' fourteen times during the trip.

A month after the trip, we got married in Bombay. It was a small ceremony – Aparna knew all the hundred odd guests. The ceremony lasted five hours. We left for Jaisalmer for our honeymoon the same day. Jaisalmer is the Golden city and hence not to be confused with Jaipur (Pink city), Jodhpur (Blue city) or Udaipur(White city). We spent a week there – that was long enough to visit all the local attractions twice. We also watched a lot of cricket. The song "Kaliyon ka chaman" followed us everywhere.

We also had a reception in Trivandrum. Again, it was a small ceremony by Trivandrum standards. But I hardly knew any of the six hundred guests. Aparna met [info]mujib and Shahina at the reception. [info]mujib joined a bunch of us at Kovalam for some fun'n'frolic. And a lot of beer. And Frisbee. We sat around in a circle and listened to Tutu sing our farmaaish. We also had the best Dum aloo Kashmiri in the world – from 'Nirvava'.

On our flight back, Air India bumped us off on the first day. So we got a free business class upgrade for the next day and some serious money back. We encourage everyone to fly Air India.

Back here, things are fun. I am getting further domesticated. I can now pull the shower curtain back, put towels back on the rack, screw the cap of the toothpaste and do dishes, all without being asked. I have come a long way. [info]kvk visited us during a weekend. It was too cold to venture out. So we sat around, had a few drinks and watched a lot of movies. Aparna and I went for a quiz the other day with Narayanan. No, we did not name our team "Sahib,Bibi aur Ghulam", but we should have. We went to Greenwich Village once to relive our New York date. Of late, we have been following Team Samsung in Pakistan.

Maybe, I'll try and update more often from now.
